Through our historical research about the site we found images of the early 1900s showing a thriving streetscape that was enlivened by the street level comerical spaces and populated by the people coming to Dudley on the Mainline El and from the residential units above the comercial spaces. Our design pulls from the formal language of this historical imagery of the buildings that used to be on or near the site and from the old railway itself. WIth this as our pallette we then created a contemporary contextual design. We intended to have the view from Dudley Square appear more traditional, and the view comin into Dudley to look contemporary. Conceptually we want the various view of the Mainline Building to remind people of Dudley’s History, celebrate its current community, and not to forget to plan and strive for a vibrant future.
